Internal reconfiguration and extension into the roof transforms this historic building in the heart of the Conservation Area

Tasked with improving the layout of the existing building, along with maximising its potential within the strict constraints of the Conservation Area made for a challenging design brief for this unique family home situated in a village near Guildford.  Key to improving both external experience of the property and its internal layout was re-positioning the front door towards the courtyard and creating a new entrance hall area on the ground floor.

Making habitable rooms within both the existing and extended roof spaces meant that two new bedrooms were added to the first floor, with windows overlooking the front and rear gardens.  Incorporating the existing utility room within the main fabric of the building, adding en-suite bathrooms and creating a large glazed opening to the garden means that this historic building can continue its life as a very special home for many years to come.
