Ground floor extension opens up 1960’s townhouse to its beautiful garden

Taking its cues from the proportions and detailing of this existing end of terrace home, the extension significantly increased the ground floor area providing a much-needed extension to the existing kitchen and dining area.  Recently purchased by the homeowners who were downsizing from their nearby longstanding family home, the brief was to create a more spacious reception area which was light, bright and comfortable to live in.

As keen gardeners, the large sliding doors and glazed corner windows ensure a connection to the garden, whatever the weather.  A large structural glass rooflight illuminates the sitting area and formally connects the extension to the existing building by echoing the classic strip detail of render and windows on the side of this distinctive home.
